Bud and Claire Moore started American Craftsman Homes of Colorado, Inc. and Mountain Realty & Development, Inc. in 1993 in Evergreen, Colorado in the Rocky Mountain foothills just west of Denver. In past lives, Claire was the Director of Risk Management for a major grocery retailer and holds a degree in finance. Bud holds a degree in engineering and has been involved in Real Estate Development and Construction for over twenty years.
It started with a dream of living and working in the mountains. Our ideal picture of life in the mountains of course was to live in a beautiful log home. In 1993, we began searching out log home products and builders. We researched movement and energy issues inherent with standard whole logs and the special financing and insurance requirements that arose as a result. Bud, with his engineering background, was particularly interested in the structural aspects as well as energy efficiency. Throughout this process, we heard numerous horror stories about the building industry in general and the log home industry most prevalently.
Both having records of superior service in our past careers; we felt strongly that building a dream home should not be an agonizing experience riddled with unknowns and uncertainty. We were determined to find a line of products and develop a process that would greatly enhance the experience for builders and clients alike.
We developed a process in Colorado that has worked well for us. We offer full services when it comes to building a home land search and real estate, financing & budgeting, home design and general contracting. We have dedicated framing crews on each project and subcontractors that provide high quality craftsmanship and timely service and stand behind their product. And, our product line of laminated solid timber logs can not be beat when it comes to strength, dryness, stability, beauty and ease on construction. Our logs are so structurally flexible that nearly any design is possible. Laminated logs can easily be combined with any other building materials.
Our whole logs are cut from dead-standing trees and open-air dried for several months. The maximum moisture content is 12%. Although whole logs are not as stable as structural logs, a low moisture log grown in a dry area helps you achieve maximum stability capabilities.
Our mission is to make your dream building experience rewarding and fun. We do this by laying out expectations and eliminating as many surprises as possible. We are happy to spend as much time up front as necessary to achieve a smooth, enjoyable process that results in a dream home that both you and us take great pride in.
We offer a variety of services and levels of construction, inlcuding the following:
